Plasto-Board for concrete shuttering

Plasto-Board is a compression-moulded recycled plastic panel used in suitable slab, beam and column shuttering applications. A reusable panel works as part of a complete formwork system: grade, thickness, support, fixing and handling all influence performance.

1. Specify the panel and application

The published panel format is 8 ft × 4 ft, with a thickness range of 6–25 mm. State the intended application, required thickness and quantity, then ask for the current grade options and dimensional tolerances. A thickness range does not mean every thickness is suitable for every pour.

Request a sample and technical data for the proposed grade. The brochure includes grade-dependent tensile information, but tensile strength alone does not establish allowable formwork loads or support spacing.

2. Design the complete support system

Give the formwork designer the panel data, concrete dimensions and expected concrete and construction loads. The design needs to cover joists, framing, props, ties, joints, edges and connections as appropriate to the application.

The supplied brochure discusses close joist or back-support spacing based on load. Do not use a brochure spacing as a universal structural design. Obtain the project designer's approved support layout before pouring.

3. Prepare panels and joints

Inspect panel faces and edges before installation. Set panels on the specified support system, support joints and edges, secure panels to the backing, and check joint alignment. Follow the approved site method for fixings and any release-agent requirements.

Confirm detailing with the site team before concreting, including penetrations, edges and junctions. Avoid making unsupported assumptions about the panel's load capacity based on its appearance or water resistance.

4. Strip, clean and store carefully

Follow the project's stripping sequence and timing. Handle panels to protect faces and edges; clean after stripping and inspect before each reuse. Stack flat on stable, even support between pours.

Remove damaged panels from service for assessment. Keep a simple site record of use, condition and repairs so the team can make informed reuse decisions.

5. Assess reuse claims in context

The supplied brochure states over 40 slab uses, 20+ beam uses and 40+ column uses under appropriate conditions. These manufacturer statements are not a guaranteed number of cycles for every panel. Actual reuse depends on grade, support design, fixing, stripping, handling and site conditions.
